More than 230 aircraft, from 37 air arms in 24 countries participated in the 2016 Air Tattoo with 55 Official Military Delegations also in attendance. History was made on Friday 8 July when Lockheed Martin's F-35B Lightning II, the world's most advanced fighter jet, performed its first ever international display. On the same day, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the show with Prince George on his first ever public engagement. Further Royal visitors to the show were HRH Prince Michael of Kent and HRH Prince Feisal of Jordan.


Other highlights include displays by the F-22 'Raptor', a Polish MiG-29, an RAF Typhoon and Chinook, a French Rafale and the Turkish Air Force F-16 'Solo Turk'. Flypasts included a unique formation of the Red Arrows, an F-35B and two RAF Typhoons giving a glimpse of the future of the UK's defence capability. There were also some notable first and lasts, with the Croatian Air Force displaying for the first time in the UK with their display team Wings of Storm and the last ever display by the French Air Force 'Ramex Delta' Mirage 2000D duo. Among the highlights on the ground was a march past by 750 air cadets, marking the Air Cadet Organisation's 75th anniversary




Not only do visitors to the Air Tattoo experience amazing aviation in the skies, there is also a whole host of entertainment on the ground. There was something for everyone at the 2016 show, from static aircraft located throughout the showground to interactive activities and the most advanced technologies that were demonstrated in the Techno Zone, visitors could also take a trip back in time to the 1940s in the Vintage Village.


Techno Zone - With aviation at its heart, science, technology, maths and engineering (STEM) were brought to life with cutting edge exhibits and hands-on activities to engage and inspire young minds. The Techno Zone 2016 was sponsored by Lockheed Martin and supported by the RAF Charitable Trust.


RAF Village - Visitors were invited to discover how the men and women of today's RAF protect UK airspace. With the opportunity to learn about current operations, the specialist equipment they use and how the Regular and Reserve force deliver effective 21st century airpower.


Vintage Village - Taking a step back in time and experiencing the 1940s through vintage aircraft, cars and fashion as re-enactors and musical hall entertainers transported you to a bygone era.


Autodrome - Our fantastic display of rare and beautifully maintained cars including vehicles from the Ferrari Owners Club, Porsche Club of Great Britain, Riley Motor Club, Mitsubishi Lancer owners club and the Atwell Wilson Motor Museum were available to view at the 2016 show.


Adrenalin Zone (Open Saturday & Sunday in 2016) - Professionals could be watched or visitors could have a go at high energy activities including mini Land Rovers, segway, trapeze workshops and balance bikes. The MAD Sports Tour wowed crowds with breath-taking mountain bike performances and extreme stunts.
